UNEXPECTED LESSONS

“The Western archive is exhausted!” says Felwine Sarr.

“UNEXPECTED LESSONS” unites a series of events in the context of TALKING OBJECTS LAB. Artistically and discursively, UNEXPECTED LESSONS negotiates the question “What can knowledge be today?”

UNEXPECTED LESSONS #1 and #2 took place in Berlin/Nairobi and Reykjavík, respectively, and focused on Decolonizing Knowledge and Memory and Decolonizing Nature. UNEXPECTED LESSONS #3 followed in collaboration with Kunsthalle Osnabrück as part of the annual theme of Romanticism. UNEXPECTED LESSONS #4 took place in Lagos in collaboration with the Heinrich-Boell-Stiftung Nigeria and revolved around the subject of restitution.
